Mentorship In Tech

Despite my personal take on mentorship, I strongly recommend finding a mentor if you’re learning a tech skill.

The learning curve in tech can be steep, with complex concepts, overwhelming amounts of information, and countless moments of frustration. Having a mentor can make this journey more manageable and, quite frankly, less lonely.

In my preference, a mentor should be someone you feel entirely comfortable with, someone you can approach without hesitation. A sounding board for your ideas, a safe space to rant about your struggles, and a resource for answering those “silly” questions that can be intimidating to ask. They should also be willing to share their experience, offering advice or shortcuts that they learned the hard way so that you don’t have to.

Sometimes, just knowing you have someone in your corner - someone who’s been through it - can be the “I can get through this too” reassurance you need to keep pushing forward.
